Detailed Course Content:

Module #1 - The Anatomy of the Skin and Natural Nail
As a nail technician it is important to have a clear understanding of your client’s nails and skin to ensure that all treatments are completed correctly. In this module looks at the structure of the skin and the natural nail. This will assist when carrying out nail treatments and advising clients on nail care.
Module #2 - Nail technician tools and products
The nail technician's task is highly specialized and as such requires certain tools and products. This module describes them.
Module #3 - Salon Hygiene
When you perform treatments as a nail technician you will come into contact with clients and perform treatments on nails – usually on both hands and feet. There is always a risk to you of injury or infection when working on your clients. Every surface from our hands to desk tops, door handles, floors and tools can potentially carry microscopic pathogens, which are disease causing organisms. It is our duty as nail technicians to be able to recognize these and control them, which comes in three stages: sanitation, disinfection and sterilization.
Module #4 - Salon Safety
It is possible for an allergic reaction to occur with any of the professional treatments clients receive in the salon environment, for example hair, beauty, nails and massage with aromatherapy oils. This can be a real problem for a sensitive client. Fortunately, the majority of problems which are related to the fingernails can be avoided through good education as supplied by manufacturers and by practicing safe techniques and understanding of overexposure.
Module #5 - Client Consultation
The client consultation is a key interaction with your client. Learn how to establish your client's background and needs. Discover what signs you should look out for. You will also discover common nail diseases and disorders.
Module #6 - Giving Manicures and Pedicures
A manicure is a treatment designed for the hands and fingernails to keep natural nails healthy and improve the appearance of hands and fingernails. A good basic manicure will moisturize and soften the hands and cuticles, shape and improve the appearance of nails and brighten and rejuvenate the skin on the hands. A pedicure is a treatment designed for the feet and toenails to keep natural nails healthy and improve the appearance of feet and toenails. A good basic pedicure will smooth calluses and cracked heels, shape and improve the appearance of toenails and hydrate and soften the feet.
Module #7 - Maintaining Healthy Nails
Maintaining healthy nails ensures that the nail area is not open to disease or infection with cut or open cuticles being a perfect place for an infection to manifest and enter into the body.
Healthy nails are a feature of good health and can often give signs to general health with subtle variations in color and texture. Nails can provide vital clues to overall health.
Module #8 - Applying Tips to Fingernails
Nail systems and the application of tips to fingernails have entered a period of resurgence in the last decade with systems and solutions becoming safer and simpler. The use of strong, acid based acrylic is now a thing of the past as are the thick, yellowed false nails and tireless filing and shaping previously required by nail technicians for maintenance.
Module #9 - The Advanced Nail Technician
Nail techniques and treatments have advanced at a fast pace over the last 10 years with the introduction of low chemical products, increased industry knowledge and a demand for nail services. Advanced treatments are finding their way into nail salons and businesses with nail technicians constantly searching for new skills and techniques to improve their profit margin and their customer’s experience.
Module #10 - Nail Art
Nail art has made huge advances over the past 10 years with acrylic powders becoming easier to apply, odorless and technologically advanced allowing nail artists to create the most intricate and imaginative designs. Competition is strong in the professional arena of nail art and acrylic design in worldwide nail art events with large prizes and strong contention for the top awards.
